Claudia Sheinbaum Calls for Dialogue Amidst Tariff Dispute

President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her disagreement and lack of understanding regarding the imposition of tariffs by the United States. She emphasized that this unilateral measure will not only affect Mexican companies and the Mexican people but will also negatively impact the American people by increasing the prices of products manufactured in Mexico.

Sheinbaum called on the Mexican citizens to join an assembly next Sunday, March 9, in the Zócalo of Mexico City, where the actions, both tariff and non-tariff, that the Mexican government will take in response to this decision will be informed. The president highlighted that the Zócalo is the ideal place to make decisions together and asserted that together, the Mexican people can overcome this challenge.

During her conference at the National Palace, Sheinbaum urged the unity of Mexicans in the face of this situation and emphasized the importance of defending Mexico's sovereignty. She assured that the government does not seek economic or commercial confrontation, but regretted the harm this measure will cause to both economies and peoples.

The leader mentioned that the Mexican government had already reached agreements with the administration of Donald Trump, which made the decision to impose tariffs incomprehensible to her. Sheinbaum emphasized the need to maintain dialogue, reminding that Mexico is a free and sovereign country.
